Heidi Mendez is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) #117564, under the supervision of Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Kim Sorrell, license #85392. In 2018 Heidi received her master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Phoenix. Her Undergraduate studies were in Criminal Justice. Associate Mendez’s clinical experience includes having provided clinical services to children, youth and their families enrolled in the County Office of Education – Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS) district and specified San Diego Unified School District Schools. Heidi has worked within the juvenile detention facilities in San Diego County in a sworn capacity with adolescents in detention conducting counseling and rehabilitation services. Heidi also has family law enforcement involvement and experience of over twelve years.
Heidi draws from various evidence-based treatment interventions. Heidi provides services to youth 17 years and under in combination with family therapy. Other treatment interventions provided for children include individual, play, and family therapy. Areas of focus with children include blended families, anxiety, depression, behavioral difficulties, and the grieving process involving the loss of a family member. Also provides psychoeducation to parents and provides resources on community programs available.
Heidi has also worked utilizing her bilingual and bi-cultural background. To which she works with the client (children or families) on exploring the current perspective of themselves and identifies a process that will facilitate metamorphosis.
